“For a community to be whole and healthy, it must be based on people’s love and concern for each other.”
In early 2015—having earned my real estate license—I launched my new career at the Athens Real Estate Company! I’m thrilled to be working with some of the most savvy professionals in the business and with a company that makes its clients’ needs first priority.
A Little About Me
At my core I am a Midwestern girl. Born and raised in southeastern Michigan, I never imagined I would end up in Ohio. I attended Eastern Michigan University in the 90’s where I studied Social Work and Community Organizing. Right out of college, I joined AmeriCorps VISTA and served as a mentor to women business owners. Over the next many years I worked with non-profit organizations, including the American Friends Service Committee, the Alzheimer’s Association and the SOS Crises Center. In 2005, I moved to Redwood Country in Northern California to study Culinary Arts. (Yeah I’m a foodie!) Later that year, while traveling back home to visit, I ended up at Old Man’s Cave and immediately fell in love with the beauty of southeastern Ohio. Within a month I had packed my car and hit the road for a new chapter in life in Athens, Ohio.
In 2006, I started my journey into housing (though my introduction to it is probably different than most). I saw the flip side to homeownership: poverty housing. During my 8 years at Habitat for Humanity International I worked side by side with countless volunteers and families, built homes in 10 states, visited 47 states and traveled to Central America to build simple, decent homes. And yes, I even met Jimmy Carter! In 2014, I decided to take a break from travel and spend more time with my family. My experience with Habitat was highly rewarding and taught me to appreciate what I have and the importance of homeownership. As a homeowner myself I also understand the unique challenges and excitement that go along with the buying and selling experience. Most of my rewarding experiences I’ve had are directly related to serving others.
Mind, Body, & Spirit
Over the past few years my mantra has been “with balance comes happiness.” I’ve found Athens to be that for me. I’m a Certified Yoga Instructor, love all aspects of nature and enjoy getting my hands dirty, whether it be in the garden or remodeling a home. I’ve purchased and remodeled many homes, including an 1850’s Historic Victorian home in Michigan and recently a foreclosure home in Athens. I enjoy a good challenge! I live just outside of Athens with my amazing husband and black lab Dee-o-gee. You will often see us hiking at Stroud’s Run, Sells or Fox Lake. In my spare time I teach yoga, cook, collect wild edibles and run a small rental business.
Feel the Love
I’ve found great satisfaction in living in our Athens community. I’ve had the chance to live all over Athens County, from Nelsonville to New Marshfield and on the west side of Athens. I am very familiar with our community and I’ve had the opportunity to participate in many great community organizations in my short time here: CFI Community Orchard Committee, ReUse Industries Board member, participant in Habitat on the Hill Lobby Day in Washington DC, Paw Paw Festival Committee Member, Humans vs Zombies team member, former vendor at the Athens Farmers Market and Athens Half Marathon participant.
